Ailsa has challenged us with Travel Theme: Texture this week. Here are some different textures captured in New York City. The beautiful St. John the Divine Cathedral is awe-inspiring and magnificent. The black sculpture is from near the South Street Seaport, the beautifully crafted cross near Ground Zero, and the last picture is a part of a beautiful high-rise building in the city.
This is the Peace Fountain at the St. John the Divine Cathedral in New York City. The Peace Fountain depicts the struggle of good and evil. The forces of good, embodied in the figure of the archangel Michael, triumph by decapitating Satan, whose head hangs from one side. The fountain is encircled by small, whimsical animal figures cast in bronze from pieces sculpted by children.
