Hurricane Sandy

30 Oct

Hurricane Sandy has devastated areas in the Tristate area and gone….leaving behind stories of miracles, destruction, and more.  The number of power outages is increasing with each news report that comes in, and now 5 million people are without power. Two NYC hospitals had to evacuate patients and that included infants on ventilators and patients in the ICUs.  Vlad at Wind Against Current has been giving news updates for his readers (including me).  The storm didn’t stop people from looting closed businesses…..

I walked to work today.  The streets were unsafe with power lines that came down with trees, as you can see what my neighborhood looks like in these pictures. Although my neighborhood has downed power lines, we lost power for a brief hour yesterday and have been extremely lucky.

Yes, overhead power lines come down—but underground power lines get flooded, as in Lower Manhattan. You can’t win!

I agree, and when I look at the destruction around us, I feel so blessed. I was thinking of you as I watched some of the shorelines disappear – places you are so familiar with may look so different when you visit again. Stay safe both of you.

Yes, I feel so lucky when I look at what people here are still dealing with – almost a week after Sandy devastated the area.

True – my heart goes out to people who lost so much and others who are without power as the temperatures here have already dipped to near-freezing.

Thanks Jake – we are trying to help friends and family who are affected by giving food and inviting them to stay in my house that is warm.
