SUNDAY POST: Black & White

This week the theme at Jake Sprinter’s SUNDAY POST is Black & White. It is Saturday morning in New York, and the weekend is off to a rainy start and the weather outside is gloomy, with shades of gray and close to black and white.  Jake says: “Black and white as a description may be considered something of a misnomer, in that the images are not ordinarily starkly contrasted black and white, but combine black and white in a continuum producing a range of shades of gray.”

I browsed through my pictures and managed to find a few pictures for the challenge, edited some of them, but surprisingly, I have one picture that is Black and White and I did not edit it at all.  If you have visited my blog in recent months you have already met Georgie, my crazy, funny, and adorable cat. He is black and white all over and this picture was taken on a snowy morning when he was sitting by the window against a gray wall….take a look…this is one of my favorite pictures and fits Jake’s description above.

Travel Theme: Signs

This week Ailsa’s travel blog features Travel Theme: Signs, where she has posted some very unique and interesting pictures and stories.  Check out what other bloggers have posted this week.

I do not have too many pictures of signs in my collection, but of the few I have, this sign stood out because it has some history dating back to 1777 and the Revolution.  I often walked down this road and when I saw this sign knew why it was called Gun Hill Road.  The history of the area prompted me to click the pictures, and as you can see, the advertisers have so ‘wronged’ the significance of this historic road.  This prompts me to post this picture for the Weekly Photo Challenge: Wrong.

This sign is at an intersection in the Bronx, one of New York City’s five boroughs.  Today, Gun Hill Road is a major thoroughfare with residential apartments, convenience stores, gas stations, banks, and health clinics.  The sign gives us the historical significance of Gun Hill Road, as you can see in the picture below.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Growth (II)

This week the Weekly Photo Challenge Growth has some great entries, and you can check them out here.

For several photo challenges, I have posted pictures of Georgie, my cat.  He is quite a character and I thought I could document his growth in a few pictures for the challenge.  He was a stray kitten and now rules the house.  He is a handful of mischief and terror all rolled into one adorable cat.

This picture was taken the day he arrived in the Fall of 2010.

A few weeks later Georgie feels totally at home!

A couple of months later

And this is  a recent picture of Georgie where he has climbed onto a high windowsill, and then next thing I hear is something crashing onto the floor, yup, he broke the blue vase.  Oh well……
